About You
Really enjoyed all the tasks given. It was really interesting to experience working within a group of structural engineers
I only spent 2 weeks in the office. This meant I didnt really get to know any of my colleagues very well. Everyone was friendly though and I expect if i had spent longer there my experience would have been different.
Everyone was willing to help no matter how basic the question
I have always wanted to work as a structural engineer, my time with Arup confirmed this. It has given me a broader understanding on the applications of equations etc
The Company
Didn't always feel there was that much work for me to be doing. Occasionally i would finish my task earlier than they expected and would be left for a couple of hours with nothing to do.
Everyone was friendly and there were a lot of social events going on
A graduate spent time teaching me to use their software.
Chatting to people who had worked there for years gave me an insight into what it would be like to work in a full time role for Arup.
All firms look great on their websites. They all offer lots of perks etc but by working within the office I got to see what the people working there really thought of the company.
The work I was doing was relevent to real projects. Working alongside structural engineers allowed me to see what tasks they were doing daily.
Everything Else
Paid well
Graduates ate lunch together every day
Couldn't attend any but there seemed a lot on offer.
I worked with the graduate who was social secretary. There are lots of activities being run including socials with other offices.
A very valuable opportunity
