The Role
Work placement gave a great sense of context to the engineering works carried out across the company and the processes required for great designs.
They were very complimentary and they gave me feedback helping me to develop
The supervisor was extremely helpful in getting me acquainted with the role
The nature of work within some teams is that it fluctuates but managed to always find tasks and or training opportunities to maximise time use, time never felt wasted
I felt like I was given an increased amount of responsibility throughout and was glad to take on the challenges.
The works that I carried out on projects gave a tangible link to the course studies helping me understand the context of the theory.
The Company
Everyone was very friendly and they were always in good spirits
The work placement was well structured with a great introduction into Arup and correspondence throughout.
I was able to go on some training courses, such as the sketching for engineers which was massively useful, the one comment is that I was not initially aware of the chance of training initially on my placement it was only after searching for myself that I found it.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
I would say that after my experience with the company I am dedicated to the quality work that Arup produce and the skills I have picked up during the placement put me in good stead for a good transition into the graduate role.
The Culture
The social scene was good we all socialised not only with the placement students but also the graduates of that year, whom I am still friends with.
In london socialising is not the cheapest, however, the location and the busy area that the office is situated make it more than worth it.
In the heart of london the nightlife has a lot to offer with blues bars, and connections to all over town the nightlife in the area was always buzzing with excitement.
I was involved with the Arup hockey team and there were always events talks and interesting activities to do outside of work hours.
