The Role
It was challenging but the work varied which kept me engaged. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was a nice place to work.
Colleagues were very encouraging and praised me a lot for the work I did. Definitely made me feel valued and that the work I did was important.
Support was brilliant. I never felt that I couldn't ask for help and despite my supervisors being busy they always made time for me. They also gave me a lot of advice about further employment.
There was plenty of work to get on with but supervisor understood that it would take me as a student longer than other employees so there was not too much pressure.
I was given more responsibility than I had expected. I was working on real jobs and just checking things with supervisors. However, I was not made to do things beyond my capabilities and the supervisors only gave me a manageable amount of responsibility
Really useful to develop engineering skills but also social and management skills. I think the placement will help me get a graduate job but also assist me with work once employed.
The Company
Relaxed and fun, but productive and had to get on with work. Everyone very friendly and would chat during the day. However, everyone also were working to deadlines and so it wasn't so distracting that people couldn't work.
Very well organised, I was told on day 1 what I was expected to do. My tasks evolved with time but supervisor kept things organised.
I did some tutorials on software. Got a lot of 1 to 1 time with senior engineers who gave me help on my work and also advice with careers.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I was offered a job after my placement - however need to relocate so still unsure.
The Culture
New graduates were very friendly and invited me to social events and lunch/
Worked in Newcastle - relatively very cheap
Newcastle is very lively and cheap night out.
Over the 4 weeks, was invited on a few socials. Probably averaged 1 a week
