The Role
I greatly enjoyed my time at Gazprom, I made some good friends and feel the experience I gained is invaluable.
I was trusted with proper roles within proper teams, I wasn't treated any differently because I was an intern and was made to feel a valued part of Gazprom Energy.
There was no formal training or courses, all the learning occurs on the job but this is how I prefer it. Supervisors and colleagues were always willing to answer questions no matter how many I had and I learned a great deal during my time.
I had a few roles whilst I was at Gazprom and was always busy in each. Gazprom is a growing business and so everyone was always busy. In my final role at the company we were extremely busy, although it was hard work I enjoyed the responsibility and this was my favourite time at the company.
I was a full part of the teams and was given responsibilities just as a normal employee would be, I was also allowed to work on improving processes within the company and my ideas and work were always taken on board and respected. Towards the end of the placement my responsibility rose greatly and I was trusted with lots of exciting tasks, if you work hard and perform well the responsibility will increase.
The internship was in finance and my degree was in mathematics so none of the skills I learned whilst working transfer directly over. However, I feel my work ethic has greatly improved due to Gazprom and this will help me in my studies. The skills learned will definitely help in any future employment.
The Company
Gazprom is a sociable company with quarterly events with free drinks, the Christmas party and also team events which were always a lot of fun. It is a young office so there is always something going on.
The finance internship was set up well, Gazprom took on two finance interns and then our roles switched after 6 months. This allowed us to experience different aspects of a finance team within a large business.
Although there were no formal courses the company invested a lot of time in me through the interaction with supervisors and colleagues. They also allowed me to experience a few different roles which is not really ideal for Gazprom so I appreciated this.

I have been offered a job back at Gazprom for when I graduate, they will pay for my accounting qualifications and give me a very competitive salary. I am delighted with this and my year in industry could not really have gone any better!
The Culture
There were a few other interns at Gazprom but there was a good social scene amongst colleagues, we would go out most Fridays after work.
Gazprom is based in Manchester so the prices are not too bad. I lived at home with my parents during my placement so am not sure on the cost of living.
There are many bars and clubs around Manchester that we would frequently visit.
I played quite a bit of football with work, we had inter-department tournaments and matches against rival energy suppliers and brokers which were a lot of fun.
