The Role
There wasn't as much variety as I would have liked - I worked on one project throughout - but there was a fantastic team spirit and it is a great company to work for.
Probably the best part of the experience. I was made very welcome, I really felt part of the team and there was plenty of socialising.
Everyone was very supportive. If I hadn't been applying for a graduate job there at the time it would have been good to discuss my career path with senior people, but circumstances weren't really conducive.
I was rarely bored - and then only because what needed doing was mundane. Plenty of opportunity for paid overtime - but only if I wanted to work extra hours.
About as much as I expected to have. I was given a bit more responsibility towards the end.
I had already finished my degree when I did my placement, so it was more a case of discovering how well my degree had prepared me for work. Most of what I learned was to do with how a job is run - things you don't really learn at University - so in that sense it was all very useful.
The Company
Very friendly, chilled and non-hierarchical.
HR took their time, as did IT, and when I went for my interview no one seemed to know exactly what I was being interviewed for! But, day to day, fine.
Nothing of note, although I did get to attend some CPDs - of mixed quality.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I did get a job - and although I originally applied separately to my placement, I'm sure the placement really led to the permanent position.
The Culture
A fair few after-work pub outings, usually with a (limited) tab on expenses.
Definitely affordable on the wage I was paid. I lived there already during University so there were no expenses associated with moving to a new city.
One of the best cities in the UK for nightlife!
Some professional events in the evenings, as well as socialising.
