The Role
I had a really good time - everyone was friendly and very helpful, it didn't matter that I barely knew anything when I started and the work was really interesting and reasonably difficult without being impossible.
I never felt like I was a waste of my colleagues time (I worried that I was going to be) and they made time for me. I also helped them out which returned the favour.
I was not at all confident to start with and my manager was very willing to give up his time to help me build up the confidence I needed to improve and become more independent.
I occasionally felt a bit bored, particularly early on when I wasn't sure what to do and was waiting to have meetings, but I got better at balancing my time as I went on.
I was responsible for my own project (although this wasn't very far reaching) but also got to do some real work for the organisation.
I learnt a huge amount, both soft skills about balancing workloads and how to get on with and network with colleagues and also more specific skills, particularly in project management, which is now helping me in my course.
The Company
I was slightly off to the side with 2 other people so it could be quite quiet, but there was enough chatting with colleagues and good feeling in the office.
There were slightly awkward gaps when people in my team were on annual leave, but that is almost inevitable when the internship is at the same time as summer holidays. Other than that, it was excellently organised, with lots of talks for the interns.
We got 4 days training at the beginning of the placement, which was really useful, and then some intermittent training later on.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Almost everyone I talked to got an offer of a job at the end.
The Culture
We were a really tight knit group and I got to know everyone really quickly.
Pretty good value from what I saw.
Didn't really use it but from what I heard it's reasonable.
Lots of volunteering
