The Role
The internship was really enjoyable and provided very good insight to the actuarial world. It involved a variety of work that an actuary does and appropriate training was given. Everyone was really helpful and nice, and the social life was also very good.
Everyone appreciated the effort that I put in and always made me feel part of the team.
I had a mentor who helped me a lot throughout my internship. He was the best mentor I could have asked for - helped me settling down over the first few weeks, provided support and advice all the time, and always found time for me despite his busy schedule. I also had 2 review meetings with my mentor and supervisor over the 8 weeks.
There were quite a few training sessions over the first two weeks which were very useful in doing the work that was set to me over the course of the 8 weeks. The variety of work is striking and the was never a dull moment. Over and above, I would say there is a perfect balance and one can make it even more exciting by requesting more of the type of work one prefers.
Gradually, I was given more and more responsibility. Over the first few weeks, it is a steep learning curve but once I felt confident enough to deliver a good piece of work, I was eventually given bigger tasks and thereby greater responsibilities.
The training matched perfectly with what I have learnt so far at university and helped me in seeing the practical side of things. No wonder the skills that I honed will help me greatly going forward.
The Company
There was always time for a joke or a fun email going round the office. The banter among the staff is also very good!
From day 1, we were clearly given our targets and a list of tasks that we should complete by the end of the internship. All the interns were given a folder that contained everything that was expected from us. The members of the team also knew what we had been set and gave us work accordingly.
Barnett Waddingham gave me every opportunity to improve and undoubtedly provides a perfect platform for success. They have chosen to take me on their graduate scheme for next year.

Being an ambitious firm, Barnett Waddingham is growing quite rapidly and provides excellent employment prospects.
The Culture
All the interns were really friendly and we often went out for lunch together. Usually on Friday evenings, we joined our colleagues for a drink or two at the pub!
The cost of living and socialising in the City is more than average!
There were always things happening around, especially on Friday nights!
There were quite a few sport events such as indoor football, table tennis and netball.
