The Role
Very enjoyable. Great work.
Very friendly and laid-back team
Support, where needed, took a while to find, but understandably so in such a narrow field of study. Certainly wasn't left out when in need of help.
Project given was ambitious, and I was told there was little chance of me completing it, but that the work was important to carry forward.
Expected to make engineering decisions and provide reccommendations to the company. Named on a patent application as a co-inventor.
Thesis project was based on new work carried forward from this placement, and was sponsored by the company.
The Company
Friendly atmosphere
Mix up with HR and related security checks meant that I had to start a week late. Certain parts of the company were expecting me, others were not.
Compamy provided training and courses, as well as equipment and opportunities to visit other areas to see what they are all about.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
Sponsored through university with an accelerated entry through their graduate scheme if employed
The Culture
Stayed with 60 other interns in derby university halls. Good social scene- pubs, cinema and go karting to name a few things we did.
Halls, whilst not too badly priced, were very basic. Cheaper, and better housing was available. cost of living was very reasonable.
Few areas in Derby you wouldn't want to go to, the good nightlife was quite dear.
Staying with 60-odd other interns meant there was always something organised
