The Role
I really enjoyed this experience as it gave me the experience of managing an extremely fast-paced organisation with annual revenue in the region of £900,000
The units at MOTO were very closely linked so I made good friendships with everyone within the service area. I formed great relationships with the Site Support Manager and the Site Manager and they did everything they could to help me fit in. It was a nice place to work and was extremely easy to settle down and feel part of the team.
I was supported extremely well by the Site Manager (Rob O'Connell). I spoke with him on a daily basis and had regular performance meetings. I felt that he went out his way at times to develop me as a person as well as one of his employees. The HR Manager (Sarah Mulligan) who runs the placement is very supportive and communicates regularly to make sure everything is okay. She works hard to make sure that the placement is structured in the best way possible. For example we had to do a Presentation in front of key members of the business at the end of the placement which I found extremely beneficial and rewarding.
I was extremely busy on a day to day basis and thrived on the responsibility which was given to me. I feel this environment allowed me to improve my organisation skills and become a much better manager as a result!
At Moto I was given the role of Assistant manager of the BK Unit which had annual revenue in the region of £900,000. I ordered stock three times a week totalling on average of £3,600. I was also in charge of managing a diverse team of 17 staff. I supported the Department Manager to ensure that all staff were focused on driving sales, driving operational standards and ensuring brand compliance. I therefore feel that I had extensive level of responsibility which I couldn't have wished for before I started
The main skill I developed was my leadership skills as this was the first time I had managed people on this scale. I was in charge of managing a diverse team and I therefore learnt how to adapt to different personalities and how to get the most from different types of people. Another key skill I developed was my level of organisation. I would say I was an organised person before this experience but it took my organisation skills to a whole new level. The experience also made me so much more confident and taught me how to keep calm under pressure.
The Company
It was an extremely busy working environment and I had a good balance between office work and operational work
The placement was extremely well structured. There was regular performance reviews which helped me to really focus on areas to improve. I went away on many training days and found these very beneficial to my development. I also went away to do a presentation in front of executives of the company. I felt this was extremely worthwhile and a good idea from the Placement Manager
I went away on many training days and found these very beneficial to my development.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I would definitely be interested in returning to MOTO
The Culture
The work was shift work so sometimes it was difficult to find times where it was convenient to meet up with a number of people. However the staff parties and managers parties were very good.
The cost of living wasn't unreasonable. I was based at Toddington so lived in Luton.
Not as good as Newcastle but made regular trips to London which was very good and a new experience!
- Charity events such as Football Tournaments - Regular Staff parties - Managers Parties such as Top Golf in Watford
