    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was highly reccomended and one of the hardest Interships to get. The work I took part in made me feel valued and I could see my effect on buisness operations. Add in the amazing social life of GE interns and its an unbeatable combination.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was instintaly accept as apart of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Was given alot of support during the first few weeks of my intership. However the support was removed very rapidly when the previous interns left.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The balance was very variable. One day you would be rushed off your feet and then the next you would have very little work to do.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was incharge of working with OEMs on repairs and orgasinsing my parts within the buisness. I was also incharge of alot of various projects where I was the newest member of the team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Very little of what I learnt during my Degree was used on placement. The degree is more about a way of thinking rather than what you technically learn.

    1/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Ups and Downs. The general atmosphere was very good however due alot of changes in the team there was occasionaly some friction between team members.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • After 2 initial weeks of training there was no structure to the internship. We were just expected to be part of the team. Goals and objectives took a long time to set up and the expectations of each intern varied from a day to day basis.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Was a few on the side training sessions about various processes in the buisness. Lean Six Sigma was probably a highlight of the entire training. However during some attempts to gain extra training and development my manager denied my participation slowing my personal development.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very few of the graduates ever moved from Graduate jobs to Salaried engineers. After several years of no promotions they seemed eager to leave. However if the chance came up to choose a certian area where I had more interest I would jump at the chane.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Being 1 of 55 interns meant that there was always somthing going on. We had: regular nights out, intern only sports teams, meals out and just socialising at each others houses.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cardiff is not the cheapest place for socialising. However as a 'Paid Student' you really dont mind. The memories you make and the experieinces you have are well worth the money.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cardiff is the capital of wales and has a night life to match its title. Plenty of Bars, Clubs and Pubs that suited everyones needs and requirements.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are alot of external activities you can get involved with. However some of the managment team dont value voleenteering and your ability to get involved can be severaly reduced.

    3/5
