The Role
Really enjoyable, everyday threw up its own challenges.
You are treated as a full time worker and not just as 'an intern'. You have all the benefits that full time workers have and are made to feel part of the 'GE Family'
Encouraged to work independently and on your own initiative after a few months in the job, but also recieved a lot of support in the first few months to enable this to happen.
Everyday was different. Very rarely was there very little to do.
As mentioned above, you are treated as a full time worker and are given a good amount of responsibility.
Effective time management, prioritising tasks, communication. All vital skills which will assist during university and beyond.
The Company
Very busy office, never a dull moment. Everyone was passionate and driven which made the atmosphere very productive.
The internships at GE Aviattion have been running for several years so the process is well set up. There is a 2 week handover shadowing period where the new intern shadows the previous intern.
Various different training sessions took place during the year which included EHS and Six sigma training. Personal development is encouraged through a goal setting, reviews and appraisal system.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
GE has great Graduate programs whether it be for an Engineering graduate Trainee program or for OMLP (Operations managemnet leadership program).
The Culture
Around 60 interns spread across the site. Most of the interns lived in either Cardiff bay or Cardiff city centre with night outs being very frequent.
Cardiff is a realtively cheap city (in comparison to Southern England/London).
Cardiff has vibrant nightlife.
As Cardiff is a big city, there is something for everyone. There are also plenty of oppurtunities to get involved in social, sport and volunteering activities within GE.
