The Role
My placement at disney was really enjoyable. My manager was really nice and we got along really well. I was working on real projects that had significant impact on the organisation and I felt that I was important. I enjoyed coming across challenges during this placement, and what I enjoyed even more was being able to overcome that challenge using my troubleshooting skills. It was the best year of my academic life so far.
Quite a lot. Everyone in the team was genuinely nice and helping. If i needed to ask something I could go up to them and ask and they were more than happy to share their knowledge. As i came from technical background , I was given tasks by my non/less- technical colleagues to solve it for them. This helped me get settled in the team smoothly and they had someone they could rely upon.
My manager sat next to me and he had a lot of knowledge he could give me. He gave me instructions on how to do things for the first couple of weeks but once I got a hang of it, he left me to it. It was not a bad thing as I appreciated being given a task and asked to come up with a solution for it rather than him spoon feeding me. He was always there for me, when I got stuck. He ensured I was familiar with how things work at Disney, that I knew where all the shared folders were and he introduced me to other peers on my first day to help me get familiar with them.
Being an intern i wasn't supposed to be uber busy. So I was ok for the most time, but when i didn't have work to do, as i had finished my work, there was always something i could do or learn. So at those times i used to help or ask for work rom my colleagues or even shadow them which kept me busy on average.
I was responsible for looking after one of websites for the disney and I used share point for this. I realised it was an important piece of work as i was given the admin rights to modify pr delete stuff. This meant that one single mistake could ruin things for others. I had to understand the role and responsibility to be able to work on share point. I was exposed to this responsibility being an intern and it was a great learning curve for me.
I have developed people skills, broadened my network and learnt interpersonal skills which are going to stay with me for life. At university, communication skills, time management skills aren't as effectively used as they are when we work for a business. As you are working for a business, you automatically become more responsible because of the pressure, reward that you want or exposure that you het to senior management. I learnt various tools such as share point, improved my presentation skills, improved my confidence which will not only help in my degree at university but also in my future career.
The Company
We had a mixture of people in the office including my manager, people from marketing and senior managers which made it silent and serious. However we were a group of 11 interns spread in different departments on that floor. So we would always meet up for quick coffee, and i never missed uni. It was really great fun having them around. Also at disney, we would just walk up to a Hulk statue or something and start playing and our managers had no problem with it, given that we did our work.
It was very well set up. I was welcomed on the first day by my manager, got introduced to everyone in the office. We were also soon receiving emails about what societies to join and wharet gyms are available. They had a well structured strategy to treat us interns Nd enough people to look after us outside work life.
I didn't need much training as all i had to learn was share point which was straight forward and i used some online tutorials. But if i did require some training i know they have a set budget that they can spend on the team so it must be worth finding out.

I enjoyed what i did at disney and I figured out this is what I would like to do in future. I like troubleshooting and i will stick with it. Disney is a well known company and i have had a great time here without any issues so I am very likely to apply for a job here, although they dont really hire for graduate roles. It will have to be a permanent role.
The Culture
Many. All of the interns were out almost every other night for either a birthday party or some other occasion. I also played football every tuesday for disney football club which was the best part of it. I got well recognised because i was a good player.
I was staying at home, but at the time it was £900 for other interns for a one bedroom flat in the nearby areas. .
I worked in hammersmith which was closer to central London so getting to London wasn't a problem hence nightlife was not bad.
Like i said, i was involved in playing football for club, i was involved in raising money for charity. We also went bungee jumping. You would get a lot of opportunities to get involved in.
