The Role
Being part of GE has been a fast pased first hand experience of the working world. Getting hands on with everyday engineering problems and applying my own knowledge to applications. It was great fun with amazing people within the work place. The workload was challanging but at the same time enjoyable.
Straight away my colleagues made me feel welcome. You do get out what you put in, so make an effort.
My supervisor at the beggining was a great help, always pointing me in the right direction. As the placment progressed this guidence faded away. The supervisor taking a step back was a great help, It allowed me to find out things for myself, ask around the site to solve problems and overall it shaped me to be more confident.
Some days I would have a huge workload. I would find throughout the day the workload would increase and at times I would feel the pressure. On other days the workload was more relaxed. The workload has been just right for me.
I was given quite a lot of responsibility at the start. I had to implement new systems to help aid production on the site. I would organise meetings with external customers and lead the project forward.
From studying Engineering at University, The skills I have gained at GE will not exactly aid my engineering knowledge. However, I have become a more confident, well rounded indivdual ready to face the working life.
