The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement, it was a challenge at times but I was always offered help and support.
I feel like a valued member of the team and was not treated differently.
I was always given help when I needed it but was also given the responsibility to make my own decisions and run my own projects.
There were times when I was very busy and times when I was less so but this was a good balance and I was never bored or felt it was too much.
I was allowed to manage my own time and own projects but the decision making was left to my superiors. However they always listened to what I had to say.
My time management skills have improved which I will use during my degree and career. Having confidence in my own ability, learning more about composites, manufacturing and the aviation industry as a whole than I could have ever learnt from my entire degree.
The Company
A friendly and relaxed atmosphere but everyone always focused and pulled together to get the job done.
A very well structured work placement but I feel this was down to my mentor/supervisor more than GE as a whole. Also more time spent in other areas may have been benefical.
We had lots of talks and presentations at the beginning and always had the opportunity to get involved in more activities. Again most of the training and coaching I received was from my superiors.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
I feel I am at a greater advantage when applying for graduate positons because of my work placement.
The Culture
There were enough interns to always find someone to socialise with, especially on a Friday night.
About average, less than London but not as cheap as some areas. Our wages more than covered what we needed.
Very good, lots of different places to go, very diverse.
Lots of opporunities if you looked for them. I joined a local rugby club and was made to feel very welcome. There are lots of local clubs but there as also lots of things to get involved with inside GE.
