The Role
Thoroughly ennjoyed it!
Whilst I am an intern I am treated as an employee of the company. So alot of the work i do is on par with what others do
Asked loads of questions and they were more than happy to help pretty much al of the time. Managers are really helpful and treat you like a person not a number or resource
Work fluctuated, usually quite busy but sometimes there were some quiet spells
Given projects to manage, have a key part in analysis for actual customers, with deadlines and requirements.
So useful, everthing i've learned so far can't be learnt at university. A great opportunity!
The Company
At the hub of the site, the design office so usually alot of activity. With other interns so you have a good working atmosphere
Its been run a couple of years on site for Design/Stress interns so they've got a good process to integrate you into the company quite well
Quite a bit manufacturing training, Engineering programme training (CATIA,Patran/Nastran,MathCad). Sometimes you'd have to find whats available but usually you can train on pretty much anything
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
They've got a really good graduate programme dedicated just for site and other programmes for GE as whole.
The Culture
26 interns total in our year, so theres a good social aspect
I come from the same city as the hamble site so i got to live at home which was pretty much free. Though as a whole i think its not too bad to live in Southampton. Definatley cheaper than London
2 universities in Southampton so a decent nightlife.
STEM, ECPO, things interns organise
