The Role
The placement is going really well so far. Speaking to the guys on the shop floor is the best part.
Yes, they are an amazing bunch of people who are really open and welcoming.
At the start I struggeled as my mentor had moved departments, but my manager really looked after me a lot and made me feel comfatable.
There are some days when I am really busy and some days where I get time to read on the engines.
I have a good amount of reponsibility, howver when my manager is on leave, I have the whole responsibility of managing the sub assembly.
I am still developing my technically skills by speaking to the guys on the shop floor is the best way to learn. I am sure I will learn much more throughout the year to come.
The Company
The office atmosphere is really relaxed and a joy to be in.
I did not have a computer at first. My mentor moved department and I did not get access to a PC 3 weeks into the intern. I then had to wait another 2-3 weeks before getting SAP/Email access.
I think GE should provide more training to the interns so we can make the most of our internship. E.g. getting first aid training.
I live in Birmingham and wish to work somewhere more local.
The Culture
Yes, I only speak to a few of the interns and we go out for movies, badminton and other outings.
I live alone so it quiet expensive in terms of rent.
I do not really go out at night to parities.
Yes there are, its just a matter of having the finance to pay for the sports.
