The Role
This placement was so enjoyable that the thought of going back to University was something I would often put off.
Nestle treats everyone like one of the team. If you do a placement with them, you arent classed as a placement student, you are classed as a full time member of the team with the same level of responsibilities.
Due to the strict processes Nestle follows with regards an employees growth through the system, I had regular meetings with a mentor to make sure that I was happy with the work which I was doing. They also take an interest in how you are coping away from home etc.
The work load was pretty sparse on occasion because the HR work is very specific; however, I was given quite a few projects to manage and take the lead on which took up a lot of my time.
As the placement students are treated like standard employees my responsibility was high. As I was in a HR role, I had a high level of access which resulted in my need to be extremely confidential.
The work I did at Nestle was unrelated to my university topic; however, in terms of a work life experience I have learnt a lot about myself and my ability to function in the 'real' world.
The Company
I got a long with my colleagues so well that a day didnt go by without a bit of back and forth banter.
From Nestle's viewpoint, the overall set up was flawless.
Nestle have a performance management system for all individual employees which assists in staff training and development.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Depending on the department you work in, there is the possibility of being offered a position on the graduate scheme for the year following your graduation.
The Culture
All of the placement students have a good connection and often planned nights out or dinners.
Based on the pay, living in York was a decent cost. Especially if you live in a house share.
Decent social scene :)
Nestle provides some things to do outside of work, such as marathons to part take in. There is also lots of opportunities to go to the York Races which is a lot of fun.
