The Role
Felt a bit like a work experience person rather than being able to actually contribute to the team.
Regular meetings with my Line Manager and other senior people in the team. It also felt like there was ample opportunity to speak to someone if you had any grievances.
Could have definitely handled a lot more work but at the same time it was good to have free time in order to be able to meet other people and find out more about the opportunities that Barclays Corporate offered.
Some of my projects were quite important pieces of work but others felt like they had been given to me just for the sake of keeping me busy.
The Dragons Den Project allowed me to develop team work skills and the pre-course training allowed me to improve on Finance and Excel. The day to day training on the job from Colleagues also increased my understanding of Finance.
The Company
It was not an overly lively office due to people being away on Summer Holidays or people working from home.
The Campus Recruitment events were very well organised and the I felt the overall internship, with objective setting and appraisals, was set up very well.
We received quite a bit of personal training and the firm went out of their way to introduce us to the different parts of the Business.
It was a great opportunity to fully understand what a Grad scheme at the organisation would be like and I felt like you got a really truthful, unbiased impression.
The Culture
Everyone made an effort to socialise and Campus Recruitment set up some good socials. Could maybe have been some icebreaker events before starting as I have heard this happens in other streams and with other firms- an opportunity to befriend people a bit earlier could have helped with arranging accommodation in London.
Very expensive!
Tons of nightlife but a bit too expensive a city!
I know lots of people did get involved in some activities but I never really felt these opportunities were well advertised, but that may have just been me not paying attention.
