The Role
It was a fantastic experience working for Nestle, where I learnt a lot and met some really great people.
I was included in project work extremely quickly, and really got to work at the pace I felt comfortable with. Once I felt completely settled in, I was given a good deal of responsibility.
As the team workload got busier, there were times when I didn't feel I had the support I needed. Upon mentioning this, however, I was quickly allocated some time and any questions were answered swiftly.
I felt I had a good amount of freedom with this. I was able to plan my days in advance so I almost never felt swamped or bored. The team was also always available to help out when things got too much!
As mentioned above, once I felt comfortable and settled, I was quickly given projects that required a lot of time and dedication, which were vital to the organisation.
The training plan that was used worked wonders, and I feel I picked up a huge amount of experience that I'll be able to apply in life, as well as in my future jobs.
The Company
We often had team lunches out, and had a really good friendly atmosphere year round - it never seemed like you had to be someone else around your team.
There was a good training plan which we followed for the first few weeks, after which we focused on anything I felt unsure about.
A mentor was assigned to me for the duration of the placement, who was always willing to explain whatever I didn't understand.

Graduate schemes are available, and the various team leaders have been very helpful in getting us informed and ready for this application process.
The Culture
A few of us lived together, which was possible because Nestle put us in contact very early on. There was a good friend circle between the team and especially the placement students. Work nights out weren't rare!
Housing itself was fairly cheap, but transportation is quite expensive in York, as is nightlife and other social activities (such as restaurants).
York has a good amount of pubs and bars, which have an amazing international range of beers. As for clubbing, there aren't nightclubs in the city.
The city offers quite a large amount of after-work activities as there two universities.
