The Role
From day one I was made to feel very welcome within the team and other members of staff made me feel welcome also inviting me to social events outside of work.
I felt very valued. They offered me advice and help whenever I needed it and I had regular meetings with my manager to discuss how I can improve and set targets. She would always ask of new things I would like to learn about and new responsibilities I would like to take on. The second half of the placement in particular I was at times doing the full role of a Recruitment Consultant which was extremely enjoyable.
My personal manager and I would have monthly meetings to discuss things I can improve on and what I should be doing to meet targets. Overall all the management team and directors were very open to me asking them questions about anything which was great and you always felt you had somebody to talk to.
Extremely, days flew by. Because you are set a number of targets at the beginning of the year you always have something to be working towards and it is up to you to complete all the tasks. I was working within an extremely busy team and there was always enough work to be completing.
My manager was excellent from the start to the finish. To begin with for the first 3-5 months it was very much just getting to used to the processes of working as a Recruitment Consultant learning about the systems and going on the training they provide which is excellent. But by the end I was given more and more responsibility and I was able to complete business development calls to try win Hays business and make money.
I now feel a lot more confident, I have developed my communication skills a lot through completing phone calls and writing business emails on a day-to-day basis and also interacting with the team also. My time management has been improved significantly, I was in the Education division and I was in work for 7.30 every morning and until the end of the day at 5.30 I had a structured day plan of tasks needed to be completed, a skill which I have taken forward to university this year.
The Company
This was my favourite part of working at Hays. I was very fortunate that I worked in a busy office with over 100 consultants in. Working in a sales environment you can feel the buzz of everybody wanting to do well and it rubbed of on yourself which was excellent. I was made to feel welcome at all times and everybody got on in the office extremely well. I was involved in playing football with people in the office every week and I would be going out with people on a Friday also. I made some very good friends on my placement.
Mine was extremely well structured. From day one I sat down with my manager to discuss what I would be doing over the year and she asked me what I wanted to gain from the experience. I made targets for the year so I had something to work towards the entire year.
It did not matter that I was only a placement student I was given the exact same training as any other member of staff. They invested heavily I spent 5 nights in Birmingham over different trips so Hays paid for my travel, hotel including £20 for food and beer! The training was excellent also and I gained skills which were very transferable into other workplaces.

If you complete your placement and do well they can offer you a graduate position and you can go in as a Recruitment Consultant which is the second pay grade up as you have the previous experience you do not need to work for your first promotion.
The Culture
Nights out happened extremely frequently and also a lot of people played football.
For me cheap. I remained to live with my student friends so for me cheap. Colleagues were very understanding if you did not have the money to socialise with them and they would often pay for things for you.
Leeds is a brilliant night out and cheap!
All the time there was something happening
