The Role
Everyone I met and worked with was very friendly and helpful. I worked with two different clients over the course of the six week internship which I felt was the perfect balance and I was given a good variety of work within each.
Everybody I worked with was very friendly and always valued my opinion. They also took the time to explain anything that I didn't understand.
All interns were assigned a buddy and a counsellor. Although I didn't work directly with either, they both kept in touch regularly to make sure everything was ok and check whether I had any questions.
I was given a good amount of work to do and was given more to do if I finished what I was doing.
I feel I was given exactly the right amount of responsibility; not enough for it to be overly daunting but enough for it to be challenging.
I definitely feel I gained a good insight into the audit process because the people I worked with took the time to explain things to me. I also feel I learnt a lot about time management and using my initiative; this is already helping me in my last year at university.
The Company
The atmosphere was always very friendly which especially put me at ease during the first week.
Apart from the slight issue of only finding out a couple of days in advance that I would be staying away from home for three weeks of my internship (meaning accommodation arrangements were difficult to make at short notice), the overall internship was very well set up. I especially felt that the induction event (3 days in Manchester) was extremely well organised.
Within our service line, we received IT training that introduced us to all the systems we would be using. Whilst working throughout the internship, the people I worked with always explained anything that I didn't understand. In terms of personal development, we were encouraged to ask for feedback from our managers on a weekly basis which helped me identify what I was doing well and what I could do better.

Company Parties/Events
My internship confirmed that EY is a great firm to work for.
The Culture
We socialised a lot during the 3 day induction event and at the final event and during our internship we had a fun social which involved a meal and drinks. We didn't manage to arrange any social events ourselves as we rarely worked in the office together and it was difficult to find a time when everyone was in the same area (two of us were staying away during the week).
Reading isn't the cheapest place to go out and socialise but there are some good places to go. Working within Audit, however, meant that I was rarely in the Reading office - I was usually out at client sites.
Reading has some good places to go out. Again, however, working in Audit meant that I was rarely in Reading - I was usually out at client sites.
EY do offer opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work but I feel we weren't really made aware of these during our internship.
