  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • In a nutshell, superb!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • The whole organisation is extremely friendly, creating a fantastic working environment. From Day One you are treated as an employee instead of an intern - colleagues will value your opinion and the skills you have built up on your degree course so don't be afraid to input ideas and make suggestions!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • The manager was superb and incredibly willing to pass on their knowledge throughout the year. Also extremely committed to career development and would get you involved in opportunities that the majority of interns would be unlikely to experience. Also if ever there is a training course you think might help develop your PR skills they were extremely accommodating at funding this.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • The work load was perfectly balanced. As a charity seeking low overheads everyone is busy and there was always more work that could be done or pursued. However, I was actively encouraged to leave on time and take a full one-hour lunch break. Certainly no stories of 'magic-roundabouting' here! Or likewise twisting your pen waiting for the next task.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • The development programme is excellent, and quite rightly the responsibility you have towards the end of the placement surpasses that when you arrive. If you demonstrate your capable of carrying out tasks of greater responsibility you will be given that opportunity (if you so desire). For example, during the second half of the placement I managed PR activity for two of the charities funding programmes, that proved invaluable experience. You will never though feel over-burdened with responsibility and pressure from the role.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Invaluable - since graduating I immediately got a job in the sports sector working in a PR & Media role. 90% of the interview for that job was using examples from my time at the Football Foundation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Professional but also relaxed - every member of staff speaks to each other with great respect and not once did I experience a shouting match or disagreement aired across the office. The staff are passionate about developing community sport and the atmosphere reflects that - there is also the time for the odd joke to do the rounds!

    • Extremely well - there is a clear personal and career development programme in operation.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • During my time at the Football Foundation I attended seven training courses - if you saw something that was going to improve your skills and improve your performance at work I don't think I was ever declined the opportunity to attend.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    • Given the small size of the department career opportunities within the organisation itself are not the same as a larger organisation. However, the skills you develop and the contacts you make give you the perfect platform to get a job in the sector.

    • Yes!

    • Standard London prices unfortunately!

    • Great central location, loads of great pubs local and a short tube journey from places to go later in the evening.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Yes, played sport and loads to do in London if you want.
