The Role
Working at KPMG was a really enjoyable experience and gave me a great insight into what it is like to work at a Big 4 firm. I was given lots of unique experiences both in audit and other areas.
Everyone at KPMG was so friendly. One of the key things that made me feel valued was that you are pretty much unaware of hierarchies- even the partners are so helpful and take and interest in you.
I didn't get given a specific mentor, but this was irrelevant as my whole team essentially took on the role and I could've asked anyone in the department when I needed help.
When I was out at client's I was always kept busy with work. However, there were some days in the office when there was little to do since I was working in the quiet summer period.
Depended on who I was working for. On some jobs I was given a great deal of responsibility which was exciting, but I was also given more basic tasks which was to be expected as an intern.
I learnt a great deal about working in a professional environment, working with new people in different teams as well as industry specific which will assist me in my future career.
The Company
There were some socials organised by departments, and in our department we all had lunch together on Fridays. Everyone was really friendly.
Everything before the internship was very well organised. One thing particularly helpful was the facebook group set up which helps to match you with others in a similar position. There could have been greater organisation once on the internship, in terms of having organised intern socials for example.
Didn't really receive any formal training, but sometime if I was not busy I completed some courses on their online business school. These were great to have access to and were quite useful.
Subsidised Canteen
KPMG is a great environment to work in and the qualification offered is unrivaled. Working with KPMG will be a great way to kickstart my career.
The Culture
We organised meals and drinks with the other interns.
Very reasonable.
Nice bars and lots of clubs.
We had one department social whilst I was there, but I know they were organizing a number of other events too.
