The Role
I spent 8 months with Arup during my gap year and then did a further 6 weeks, after my first year at uni. I enjoyed both greatly, feeling like I learned a lot and gained great office experience improving many competences.
My colleagues were one of the main reasons the placement was so enjoyable. They were always incredibly friendly and always willing to help when struggling with work
My mentors were always incredibly helpful, even when busy and I was bugging for some stupid mistake is made! They always made sure I understood the theory behind what I was doing which really helped when studying the topics at uni.
At the beginning of the placement there were times when I had little work, but once I got to know more people this very rarely happened as I was more trusted with more complicated tasks. However the majority of the time, it was very well balanced!
I felt it was given a lot of responsibility which was very rewarding as it really made me feel a valued member of the team!
The placement was very helpful in that at university the majority of the work is theory so Arup gave me the opportunity to see the theory put in to practice which was fascinating to see!
The Company
There was a great atmosphere with a social team constantly organising various events
The organisation was good once I got to Arup however I wasn't notified I'd got the placement until very late.

The Culture
We all met on the first day for an organised induction day which was good fun, although after that we were left to meet up ourselves.
We worked in London so it was quite expensive, however I lived at home so that saved costs!
