The Role
The internship was challenging, diverse and exciting. I was involved in real projects with real responsibilities - tasks were not make shift to keep us busy - and Barclays really invested in us as an intern cohort.
Colleagues made every effort to welcome me to the firm, involve me in their projects and talk to me about their roles.
I met with my supervisor almost daily to discuss progress and we had weekly development meetings scheduled.
I was never bored during this internship. At times I felt like I was very busy, but this served to improve my time management skills and encouraged me to manage the expectations of my stakeholders more effectively.
All tasks were real tasks with real responsibilities and real deadlines.
The Company
I was surprised at how flat the hierarchy is at Barclays WIM - all colleagues were friendly, from graduates to senior leaders, and they encourage an open and dynamic atmosphere.
Projects, meetings and networking events were all organised well in advance of our start date and there was strong communication before the internship re admin/joining information.
Strong training sessions with an external training company, meetings with senior leaders, talks by various employees, real responsibilities, feedback opportunities, exciting projects involving real prospect clients and a graduate job offer - this firm invests heavily in its interns.

I have been offered a place on the 214 graduate scheme.
The Culture
Networking was encouraged and there was a large selection of networks/societies which interns were able to actively involve themselves in - from cricket teams to female diversity networks.
