The Role
Personally I found my placement really valuable in that it enabled me to demonstrate my existing skills and also develop new ones; particularly the ability to show attention to detail. The reason why I did not give it full marks is because I personally felt that it was too short a period, in the sense that I was unable to see any client cases completed, nor get to experience any other departments work, aside from the seat i was allocated with. However i really nejoyed my Pensions seat, as i found the work really interesting, the team was lovely/welcoming and it made me discover a new area of law which i am interested in.
I personally found my colleagues really friendly and welcoming, and through their continuous support and advise, i felt highly valued.
I was given strong support and guidance by the management.
My supervisor (and also other members of the Pension team) gave me consistent good quality work to complete throughout the two weeks, with lots of help and assistance where needed. When i was not too busy, i found it really useful chatting to my colleagues, through which I learnt how friendly and open the firm actually is.
In my opinion, i was given a sufficient amount of repsonsibility through the work which i was provided with. Although i personally feel that i could have handled more responsibility, i understood that the more responsible tasks were more suitable for the trainee or the solicitor to ocmplete; who had more expertise and knowledge on the subject.
Personally i feel that the placement was really efficient in helping me to develop certain areas, in particular interview skills, demonstrating attention to detail and also engaging in various tasks which reflect work which i have done in my degree, but essentially showing how it is implemented in practice.
The Company
Although everybody in my office was hardworking and dedicated, the atmosphere was still relaxed and friendly, which i found really appealing. The fact that the office was open planned i feel contributed substantially to this.
The placement was overall really well organised, we were given lots of notice on when our assessments would be and I found the general structure of the two weeks really efficient.
I thought that the firm invested really well in the vacation placement scheme, in particular its organisation of social events and and employees time.
Company Parties/Events
After spending two weeks with Pinsent Masons, my passion to practice law in a successful and friendly commercial firm was developed and i also found that the values and general principles of the firm were really suited to me.
The Culture
Both the office drinks and the evenings out with the trainees were really fun and also insightful in learning more about what it is like to be a trainee at Pinsent Masons.
Although I did not experience the nightlife in Leeds to a great extent, I found that on the social evenings, the atmosphere was really fun and exciting.
