The Role
I had a fantastic time during my 8 weeks at Barclays Corporate. The work I was given was both challenging and rewarding; and the people I met made the experience incredible.
My colleagues trusted me and made me feel very welcome. They asked me to do important work which made me feel very valued.
Whenever I needed help my manager was always on hand and would take time out of his busy schedule to help me in any way.
I felt very busy but I was still able to take an hour for lunch a day and complete my work. Whilst at my desk I was busy but in a good way. It made the day pass faster and gave me a sense of accomplishment when tasks were complete
I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility with the tasks I had to complete. The only way I could have had more was through client interaction which is something I would have liked; but at the same time I understand tha I was only an intern and client relationships are very important and sensitive.
A perfect example is a presentation that I completed today in which I used the Barclays framework.
The Company
It took a few weeks for me to settle in with the office private jokes but once I did I found the atmosphere to be very fun and pleasant. However as work load increased people would get stressed and the atmosphere would be quite tense.
It was organised extremely well. My only criticism is the "mid-internship" social wasn't at the midway stage; but more like the 3/4 through.
They provided masterclasses almost every week as well as training at the start of the internship to provide me with the skills I needed.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
They offered me a graduate position to which I accepted.
The Culture
The group I was placed in all got on very well and we would do something after work and on the weekends.
As I come from a small town in Wales, I found London to be very expensive.
I had an amazing time whenever I went on nights out during my time in London.
I got involved with football, darts and pool which were all outside of work and really enjoyed them.
