The Role
It was an incredible experience, which allowed me to get a real insight into what life as a trainee in a law firm would be like. I thoroughly enjoyed the nature of the work, the people, and the social activities.
From the partners to the trainees, each one was always friendly and forthcoming and helpful. When I did a piece of work I was always commended and told that it was useful.
The task at hand was always explained to me, in context, and in view of the wider picture. I never felt out of my depth.
Exceptionally busy, compared to the other vacation scheme students. My department seemed to be very busy all the time, and there was always something to do.
I was given more responsibility than I have ever been given on any other vacation schemes.
As an undergraduate studying Classics, a commercial law firm is a far cry from my daily duties as a student. However, I feel the research tasks were helpful, in that they allowed me to pick out the most relevant parts of the subject matter. Also, having to read and understand complex principles very quickly will no doubt be useful next year when I will have a great deal to read for finals.
The Company
An exciting, buzzing department.
I had a meeting with my supervisor every morning so I always knew what I was doing for the day.
Pinsent Masons invested a fair amount in terms of money, training, time and encouragement. It was genuinely a great place to learn.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Extremely appealing, especially compared to other law firms. There is a real acknowledgement of having a work-life balance.
The Culture
Yes - the trainees made a good effort to mingle and we had at least 2 social events a week.
I live in London, so the only expense was travel on the tube.
Great.
Yes, there were lots of sports events and corporate social responsibility opportunities.
