The Role
I really enjoyed my experience at Barclays and had a great time in both teams I had the chance to discover during the Summer Internship. They gave me the opportunity to learn a lot, to discover many new things and to gain a very good overview of Investment Banking. I learned a lot on a professional and personal side and had the chance to meet many very interesting people.
There was a very good dynamic with all other interns at Barclays and on several networking events I had the chance to speak to many people of the Bank that gave very interesting insights and advice for a career in an Investment Bank. The Teams I had the chance to work with gave me a lot of responsibility and gave me the feeling that I was actually adding value, which was a great feeling. Everybody was there for any problems I could have and was more than happy to help when I needed help. Everybody was really committed to make this internship a great experience, with a steep learning curve.
My Line Manager set several goals I had to achieve and mission I had to fulfil during my internship and gave me advice on how to achieve them. My supervisors helped me whenever I had a question and were committed to show me every aspect of Investment Banking.
I had the chance to work on many different projects and thus was quite busy during my internship, which I perceived as a good opportunity to make the most of it and learn a lot. I think that being busy is a great sign and especially during a summer internship, which lasts only 9 weeks, it is pretty important to work on many different things in order to learn and discover everything.
I had several personal projects that I had to realise on my own, such as presentations to my Team etc. This gave me great responsibilities. I also worked on several other projects and was given many different tasks, which gave me many responsibilities and actually made me feel like I was adding value with the work I was doing.
During this internship I could develop many finance related skills which will definitely enable me to understand better everything related to finance and also gave me the willingness to even go further into the topic and discover even more about it. Other skills on tools that I discovered during my internship will enable me to prepare presentations etc. in a more detailed and more focussed way, in a more efficient way. I think that all those skills will be of a great aid for the beginning in the work environment.
The Company
Everybody was very nice and committed to give advice and help on everything and everybody took the time to explain things in a very detailed way. I met many employees from Barclays who were all very nice and interesting and had a very good time within the Teams I worked with. The atmosphere with the other interns was great, too.
We had a Training week in the beginning, which enabled us to gain several skills in order to be ready for the internship. The two rotations within the Investment Bank were very well organised and we were involved in many tasks since the very first moment. We also had several training sessions and networking events which enabled us to gain insights and a good overview of the Investment Bank.
This summer internship really enabled me to learn a lot and fostered my willingness to work in this field in the future. I had the chance to discover many different industries, sectors and work fields and had the opportunity to gain many valuable skills for my professional future.
Company Parties/Events
I think that if you show commitment and are really committed and interested in everything you do and make the most of the internship within Barclays, the future employment prospects are really appealing.
The Culture
There was a really good atmosphere between all interns of Barclays and with all the colleagues that were always pleased to help. It was really a great time, combining work but also many very nice moments.
The cost of living is pretty expensive in London, but you have plenty of possibilities in terms of socialising. It is the same for all big cities in the world so I wasn't really surprised by the cost of living in London.
London is a great city for nightlife: there is plenty of restaurants, nice bars, clubs for all tastes.
London offers a lot of opportunities for activities, I think that there is nothing you can't do in London which is really great. What I also really liked about London was the fact that the city offers possibilities for all tastes.
