The Role
Very much enjoyed my placement, it gave me a great insight into the world of corporate banking.
Everyone is welcoming and friendly and senior staff are happy to go out of their way to teach you about how their team fit into the larger structure of the business.
My line manager and his colleagues around the business area were excellent and the appraisal structure allows you to develop.
As with any job their were periods where I was very busy and periods where I was not busy at all. On the whole though, it stuck a good balance.
Given the short duration of the internship there is only a limited amount of responsibility you can be given. However, despite this I was still given important tasks which added value to my team.
In terms of working within a professional environment, I gained extremely valuable skills. The accounting focus of the work didn't help me with my degree per se but will no doubt be useful in later life.
The Company
Quiet and focused for the most part, but friendly none-the-less.
Very well organised and structured.
We were given a one week training programme for a 9 week internship, which to me represents a substantial investment.
If you perform well, you have a good chance of being offered a position on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Canary Wharf and London in general is expensive but an amazing area to work and socialise.
Sports, etc.
