    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A very worthwhile and eye opening experience. I met a lot of great people at the company.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I worked in a remote team, so it was easy to feel isolated from time to time.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager and I had a fantastic relationship. We spoke regularly, but I rarely saw him, which made things slightly difficult.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I tried to be as proactive as possible in my role, but it was not uncommon for me to be left without work to do. I very much worked on an ad-hoc basis as and when my manager needed things done.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Varied. It totally depended on what I was doing, but I did have an opportunity to assume some high responsibility work.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This placement won't help me specifically with my university course, but it has given me a fresh perspective heading back to my final year, which will allow me to implement a much stronger work ethic. It was a fantastic stepping stone before starting my career on a full-time basis.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Almost no one in my immediate team was in the office on a daily basis, but there was plenty of people about all the time.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I wouldn't suggest my role was set up extremely well, but HR did quite a good job of co-ordinating over 100 interns over the course of the year.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is an abundance of online training, but I would have preferred some hands-on personal training.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have to apply back, but I think there is more chance of getting a place on the graduate scheme than if I was an external application.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It is as good as you want it to be. Completely depends on how much effort you put in.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is cheap relative to somewhere like London. I paid £300 a month in rent, which was pretty standard.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading has a few decent bars and clubs.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • 3/5
