The Role
I worked in Santander's operations division. The work was focused on improving the current processes within the bank and my team focused on the IT side (but to common misconception there was no coding involved). Instead my role focused on project management and liaising with relevant stakeholders on drawing the plans of improvements and ensuring that they were in line with business requirements
The atmosphere was great, I felt comfortable to ask questions even from colleagues who were not in my team.
The level of support was good
There were weeks when I was particularly busy when taking over a project and August proved to be a high holiday season for Santander's employees
My level of responsibility exceeded my expectation, I was exposed to many of the bank's core divisions.
I learnt how to use MS Visio for project planning and MS Project Manager which is used for it says on the tin.
The Company
The atmosphere was pretty relaxed and fun, everyone was friendly and was easy to approach
I enjoyed a vast amount of responsibility however the programme wasn't structured very rigidly and there was only one networking/social event
As it was only 9 weeks placement I didn't expect n awful lot of training. Apart from doing the compulsory training I got taught through the basics of change management practice and was introduced to several software packages
They prioritise interns for their grad intake
The Culture
It was pretty good, we met at the local bar each Friday
It's London, you can't expect bargains
London offers a vast variety of going out options, you just need to know the right places but whenever you go you should be prepared to spend quite a bit to enjoy yourself
I wasn't made aware of any (apart from sports day which was taking place during working hours)
