The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Linklaters, thanks to both the interesting work that I was involved in and the great people that I met during my vacation scheme.
I was made to feel very welcome by those working in Linklaters, and was included in all aspects of life at the Firm, both in and outside the office. This included attending two office parties and playing for the football team while I was there.
Through being provided with a principal associate and a trainee 'buddy', I always had somebody to turn to for guidance if I needed advice or assistance. Also, I found those working in the two departments I sat in to be always looking to encourage and support me.
While I was provided with enough work to keep me busy throughout my placement, the trainees and associates were keen to ensure that I never felt overburdened.
I was involved in real transactions and deals, able to make real contributions to the work that associates and trainees were involved with.
The advice I was provided with on organisation of my time and work will, I believe, provide me with real assistance in my studies, particularly as I am coming up to a pressured and stressful year with my finals at the end of this year. Through prioritising of tasks and effectively planning my day, I have learnt to more efficient with my time, helping me to make the most of the time I spend studying.
The Company
There was a very collegiate atmosphere in the office,
Very well organised with everything arranged into a schedule that we were presented with on our arrival, and also reminders being provided for the various events that we were to attend.
As mentioned above, the various tasks and assignments we were presented with, coupled with thorough feedback from trainees, associates and partners really helped me to develop the skills I will need as a solicitor.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
There are a large number of places, so the number of training contracts offered to vacation schemers is very high.
The Culture
Yes. There was a wide range of fun socials such as Mixology (a cocktail making class), Dinner at the Ivy, a World Cup social at a local bar and spy themed event which ran throughout London. Also, I met up regularly with fellow vac schemers in the evenings.
I found that it was quite expensive, though working in the City, I expected this.
It was ok, there wasn't a great number of bars and restaurants and the ones there were quite expensive.
There are some good opportunties if you look to get involved. I greatly enjoyed playing for teh Firm's football team.
