About You
Walker Morris was well-organised and welcoming. The activities during the vacation placement provided me with a true reflection of what it is like to work for the firm.
I felt very valued at the firm. Every person with whom I spoke made an effort to find out about my background and previous experience. Good relationships are formed early in the week which allows you to get stuck in straight away and show what you can do!
Everyone at Walker Morris is approachable. All employees are keen to answer any queries on the work you are asked to complete. All facilities which are available to the employees are made available to the vacation schemers; so, any facilities such as the library are there for you to use.
The vacation scheme is a good way of learning how to practically apply the legal theory learned during study. Working on real jobs in a real environment is the best way of utilising the skills which you have built up during your legal studies. Walker Morris allows this to happen.
The Company
Very well structured. A timetable is issued in advance. There is a good balance between undertaking work tasks and events where you can get to know the people in the firm and ask any questions you might have. Everything went smoothly during the week and there were no disruptions to the timetable.
The general atmosphere was fantastic. Everyone clearly works hard, as expected. However, there is a good atmosphere and there was never a time when it was felt someone could not be approached to answer a query or seek some guidance.
I was paid to partake in the scheme. It is something I would have paid to do! The firm clearly allocates many hours and resources to ensure that every vacation scheme candidate is applying for a worthwhile experience.
It gave me a good insight into the type of work which I would need to carry out as a solicitor in a commercial firm. I was involved in real jobs. This is obviously the best way to see what it is like to work for the firm.
The culture promotes building relationships. Walker Morris look for individuals who can do this. They want people who do the work they are tasked with but who can also win work and build, and maintain, good relationships with clients.
It has confirmed that I would like to become a solicitor.
Everything Else
The pay was generous. The experience is so valuable, I would have done it for nothing.
As a single site firm, there is always access to other employees or departments. There are also social events which employees of the firm attend.
There is a good balance between the tasks in the ordinary working day and the social events after work. There are several opportunities throughout the week to attend social events and get to know other people on the vacation scheme and employees of the firm.
Yes. The social events which were organised give a gave a good indication of this.
I would and will recommend the vacation scheme at Walker Morris to any person wishing to enter the legal profession. It is a brilliant firm. The vacation scheme gave me a good insight into working there. It was a good experience enabling me to use the skills I have learned on my degree in a practical setting.
