The Role
Everyone in the firm very friendly and no sense of competition with other vacation scheme students. Not particularly "enjoyable" as it was four weeks long but a true insight into the firm, which is what I was looking for.
Colleagues ask for your help in real tasks and don't just make things up for you to do, as they don't have time for that! Also, everyone was incredibly friendly and honest.
No noticeable "management".
Very little time spent doing nothing.
It varied depending on who I was working for, but associates went into meetings with documents I had prepared, and sent off documents I had written to clients, without very much alteration.
A placement in a solicitor's firm will never aid a degree in law because the study and practice of law are inherently separate.
The Company
People work hard but they're all friendly.
Only real complaint is that social events didn't meet the standard expected. Some were very good but some were not well received by the students. Otherwise, the whole time spent in the office was well-organised by everyone who had an input in that organisation.
Lots of lectures and workshops to give a rounded view of the firm as well as proper exposure to real work.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Would love to get a training contract with this firm.
The Culture
Excellent atmosphere amongst the fellow students, and often when events weren't organised for us, someone took the initiative to organise it themselves. Colleagues work too hard to fit in a social scene!!
Very expensive part of London.
I have no idea - I'm not into that sort of thing.
At the weekend, yes.
