The Role
As a 19 year old undergraduate, this placement has gone above and beyond my expectations and it’s fair to say, I didn’t want it to end. I was given some fantastic opportunities, and ones I could not have expected given at my age and level of experience.
Danone is a brilliant company to work for and one that really values you as an employee. Whether it’s weekly massages, 5-a-side football or cocktail making classes with your team, you really feel your hard work is appreciated here at Danone. Everyone and anyone can label a company as a great place to work, but Danone really is just that; A very open, flexible and welcoming environment to work in.
My line manager is really supportive and ensures I get the most out of my time at Danone. I was given some fantastic opportunities during my placement and it would not have been possible without the fantastic support of my Line Manager. We had a weekly 1-2-1 meeting which was great to catch-up.
There is a very good balance at Danone - I very rarely left after 6.15pm. On occasions I had to work long hours but I was more than happy to do this given the opportunities my Line Manager and Danone had given me. My Line manager was always keen to know how busy I was and was happy to help where appropriate.
In terms of my role, I have gained great exposure, presenting in front of two Managing Directors, whilst having close contact with my external contacts - there was a lot of responsibility given my age and level of experience.
Very useful life experience more than anything. However, I have gained valuable excel and presenting skills which I will take back to University.
The Company
The atmosphere around the Danone office is fantastic - it's as if Danone only employ friendly people. I always enjoyed going in to work!
My placement was very well organised - my Line Manager was very keen for me to get a variety of experiences. However, more impressivly, the HR team were brilliant. During the first few weeks of my placement, I had a number of meetings with HR to discuss how I was settling in and they were happy to help with any issues I had.
Danone is a truly fantastic place to develop on both a professionally and personally. As a Danoner, you have a personal development plan where you can enjoy an array of valuable training courses. This included on the job training, external training on job specifics, life skills sessions and a personal highlight, personality profilling.

The Culture
There is a fantastic socail scene at Danone. I regularly went on team lunches and drinks - to the extent where I almost went to one once a week, if not atleast every two weeks. These were really good.
It is very expensive to live anywhere in London, but perhaps Ealing is slightly cheaper than more central areas of London. You are looking at £4.40 for a pint which is pretty average.
Admitidly, Ealing's nightlife is not amazing. There are plenty of good pubs but if you want a big night out, you are much better going in to the centre. Luckily, Ealing Broadway is on the central line so it doesn't take long!
Yes, I regularly travelled to Leeds to take part in meetings at my account's head office.
