The Role
I definitely enjoyed the placement but am not sure if it's what I would want to do for the rest of my life.
Everyone was so nice and were always there to help you if needed.
My supervisor helped me whenever he could/when I needed it. He was often quite busy but then there were always other people around to help.
Most days it was a perfect balance. Very occasionally there might not have been too much to do but then you just had coffee breaks :)
I was responsible for performing lab experiments independently but my supervisor would always tell me what he wanted me to do.
All the skills I developed are definitely assisting me in the third year of my degree.
The Company
It was very relaxed but could be too quiet at times.
There were some issues with tax and holiday days at the start but this got sorted quickly. Otherwise everything was well organised.
You are trained in everything you use in the lab.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare from home
There is a fast track graduate scheme available for students that have done a placement.
The Culture
There were lots of other students at the site to socialise with. Also went to the pub with colleagues after work often!
Cost of living was good as was the socialising
There is only 1 club in Stevenage and its not great but London is very close by and there were lots of bars and pubs. House parties happened a lot.
I joined a gym. Otherwise, there was mainly going out for dinner, going to the pub, cinema, bowling or going into London.
