About You
Very helpful, I spent a week with the FCA but was rarely sat down. The ladies in HR organised meetings with senior figures to gain a better understanding of the FCA and the way that the organisation works.
I didn't feel at all undervalued and everybody in the HR department was happy to talk to me and help me out. I was also invited to come back for the HR 'away day' which consisted of HR department receiving presentations from other departments about current projects and challenges. There were also team building exercises which the HR team encouraged me to get involved with. I didn't feel like a regular work experience person. I felt a part of the team.
A great deal. I was given a laptop and a temporary email address and was guided through administrative tasks.
I found that a career in regulation would be incredibly interesting and rewarding. As a result, I have applied for the internship.
The Company
Very well structured. Each day that I was there was full of meetings with managers and senior associates and no meeting was monotonous or boring.
Very good. All of the department were synchronised with each other. Everybody knew what was happening in the organisation and the atmosphere was less formal than other places. That being said, the staff there were very professional. It is no wonder that there is great career mobility in the FCA.
I didn't receive any formal training during the week I was there, but the FCA were keen to invite me to various departmental activities. They wanted to show me the opportunities available for me in the FCA.
The meetings and activities that I did attend assured me that I wanted to work with FCA in the future.
The events that I attended were heavily focused around the company culture. Career mobility, equal opportunities and diversity are also key components of the company culture and I would really recommend the FCA for this.
Incredibly helpful. The week I spent with the FCA made me firmly aware that I wanted a career in regulation in the future.
Everything Else
The FCA are happy to cover the costs of food and travel expenses.
Personally, during my week with the FCA, I gained a large amount of contacts who were all keen to hear more from me in the coming months.
I didn't attend any such events.
The FCA gives opportunities to study another language, to go on a secondment to the USA or Europe, has subsidised gym membership and a variety of sports clubs.
Absolutely. Most organisations within the financial services are stressful and don't treat interns or work experience persons with much respect. The FCA is much, much different.
