The Role
It's been enjoyable up to now (about half way) but very challenging at the beginning because I was a bit like a fish out of water, having no idea about the pharmaceutical industry.
My department is great, everyone is lovely and were so supportive when I was new answering all my questions and explaining everything when I needed help.
There is a lot of support available from my supervisor and all the members of the dept really. I have regular meetings with my supervisor to see what I'm up to and if I'm on track with the placement goals, and everyone is very helpful if I have a question or a problem with excel.
Very busy at the start when I was learning how to write the reports and getting to grips with the whole structure of everything. Every month the first two weeks are quite hectic with my monthly reports but then for the other two weeks it's more ad hoc requests and project work which is sometimes not really available which can be annoying.
More responsibility than I expected - the monthly reports I do go out to a lot of people so if a mistake is made then it's quite a big deal, which is a bit scary because it does happen sometimes. But it's good because then you know the work you're doing is actually kind of important, and it's not just a waste of time.
Working on excel 99% of the time has made me become so much better at it than before which is a good thing to know for final year. Time management has improved and general organisation from having a few jobs on the go.
The Company
Really good, we go on lots of pub quizzes and things like that after work, we went to a comedy night recently, people bring in cake and chocolates quite often, everyone is always quite chatty.
Well organised, there was work to do as soon as i got here so no waiting around for things to do. The 2 week handover was really good because the old student taught us everything we needed to know for the basics.
There's always a chance to go on a field visit or a market research open day in London which is really good and shows what else there is out there.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
My department has hired three of its previous placement students so it's really good if you enjoy it and do well during the year, there is a chance of a job if they want you.
The Culture
It is really good, quite a few of us live together nearby so there's always things going on like going to the pub or to the cinema. Probably quite important to have a car because there's not a town very close.
Cost of living is fairly high because there's no student housing. If you want to shopping best bet is to go into London or to Stratford for westfields shopping centre.
You can go out in Hertford which is ok, but we went like twice and then never again. London is probably best bet!
There was netball in the summer and all the students go to the gym
