The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Retail Management Undergraduate Scheme.
I felt very much valued by my colleagues, more so by those in management and personnel.
The support and guidance was great from day one. A very welcoming and supportive team of partners who were keen to see me exceed in my tasks.
I was given the work of a typical section manager, thus spent each day continuously working, keeping on top of my work load.
The level of responsibility was great. As a result I was able to go beyond my set outcomes and achieve more than anticipated.
The skills I learnt will certainly help me at interview for the Retail Management Graduate Scheme. In turn an insight into the business and key figures has been a significant tool for a recent university assignment.
The Company
The atmosphere was mostly very positive, minus the occasional stressful day or quiet sunday.
I never felt uninformed or misguided. I always knew what was expected of me and what I needed to do next.
So much so that they went on to refer me for a fast track application onto the graduate scheme as well as try and move my application across to a preferred graduate scheme.
Subsidised Canteen
A greater opportunity to get onto the retail management graduate scheme.
The Culture
There were no other placement students at my branch however I often had coffee or lunch with colleagues.
The cost of socialising i.e. food and drink was average. Not exceptionally expensive, nor cheap.
Southampton nightlife is considered to be very good however I did not experience the nightlife whilst I was on placement.
No planned activities were made available however colleagues often got together outside of work.
