The Role
It was a lot of fun. I learnt new and interesting things, picked up some key skills, and met and made friends with some wonderful people.
The teams I worked on were all very supportive. I had to get used to the idea that my questions weren't stupid or bothering my co-workers. The level of responsibility and all the encouraging comments really makes you feel as though your contribution matters - which it does.
My line manager was wonderful - very proactive in keeping in contact with me to chart my progress, and always willing to answer my questions and reassure me about things I was nervous about.
Some days will always be busier than others. The nature of my placement meant we had to rely on our clients to give us information; sometimes this took longer than we would have liked. So some days were quite quiet and others were pretty hectic. All in all though, there was a pretty good balance of work. I very rarely had to stay beyond normal office hours to complete everything.
Your place in the team is highly valued, and the responsibility you're given shows this. Depending on the team you're placed in, you may have to do a lot more than you're expecting, which I found really refreshing. From the first working day, I had a substantial bit on my plate which meant I was never bored. The development you go through during the process is wonderful as well. The people I worked with were always willing to commend and recommend interns that took on the responsibilities well.
The skills you pick are very transferable. Analysing data and synthesising large quantities of information will always be useful.
The Company
I worked in different offices during my time at GT, and each one had its own vibe. None of them were ever really dull though, and I made friends with some great people.
From the graduate recruitment team, to your colleagues, and through to your line manager, everyone knew what was going on. At no point did I feel like I would miss out on something due to poor organisation or that I didn't have any official direction.
The training days that the firm gives you during the internship are wonderful. All the interns get together in the country, where you have seminars and workshops allowing you to learn new skills and recognise and develop the ones you already have.

Very appealing.
The Culture
Working in Manchester meant there was always something to do after work if we wanted, and my fellow interns and I took advantage of that.
Coming from London, Manchester was a relatively cheap place to socialise and live.
Excellent. Manchester nightlife is great.
Being in Manchester, there were a number of things and places to go to outside work if I wanted to.
