The Role
The company has been a joy to work for. There is a fantastic balance of work and social commitments. I also felt that I was contributing genuinely to the business.
My colleagues have been very welcoming and are very appreciative of the contribution I have been making for the company.
I was assigned a mentor who has guided me through general areas of my career development by giving me valuable knowledge of his experience. My managers have been very supportive and are very understanding of my relative inexperience.
This is probably the best part of working for NATS. You are expected to work hard obviously, but you do not have to take your work home with you or work antisocial hours.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility, however it was understandable that I was not given too much responsibility since the business is a safety-critical one i.e. the success of the business is affected by how safe we can make air travel.
I have gained a lot of knowledge about how to develop my career in the future. This was given by a series of different presentations from senior managers.
The Company
Fantastic!! That's all I have to say. Great fun, but serious when required.
In general the scheme has been well organised. However, we have regular meetings with the co-ordinator where we put forward suggestions for improvement so the scheme is constantly improving
There have been a number of different presentations regarding career development. I also have a mentor assigned to me who helps at a 1:1 personal level.

It is always far more appealing for a company to employ someone who they already know since they don't have to spend extra money on recruitment drives. A significant number of placement students return on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
We have a very close friend base amongst the placement students and graduates. We regularly have social events such as bowling, pub lunches, go-karting which have allowed us to flourish as a group.
Whiteley is not the cheapest of areas, however it is not unaffordable.
Whiteley itself is a small village in the Hampshire countryside. So it is very quiet at night. Most of the nightlife is located in Portsmouth and Southampton which are not too far and have a whole host of quality bars and clubs.
The sports and social club have a whole host of activities for just 30pence a month!! There are teams for virtually any sport you can name.
