The Role
A varied and challenging experience that gave me a good perspective of the roles and responsibilities expected of a Manager in a retail environment
Everyone was very welcoming and happy and eager to help and cooperate
I received structured meetings with top level management as well as constant support from my direct supervisors. I was however, given responsibility and challenge to excel in my own management role.
There were quiet periods on the shop floor. However, due to the nature of retail this is to be expected and the days rarely seemed to drag.
I was given genuine responsibility throughout the placement, controlling the shop floor independently on a regular basis.
I developed extensive team working, management , research and communication skills which have really helped towards my final year studies
The Company
The atmosphere was professional but always lively both on the shop floor and in our Management office.
Very well organised, I had a specific agenda with planned activities and meetings. In addition I was given the opportunity to add my own meetings and relevant activities to my timetable.
I was given time with and support from top level management, my own personal project to complete and all staff seemed genuinely interested in and wanted to enhance my development.
Subsidised Canteen
I have gained a place on the final day assessment centre through completing the Summer placement.
The Culture
I was the only placement student in the store.
Newcastle is a very reasonably priced area
Newcastle has an extensive nightlife!!
Not really, but this was probably due to the short period of the placement and that I was the only placement student in store at the time.
