    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Once I proved myself and felt more confident in what I was doing my colleagues gained more confidence in me and I became a valued member of the team.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager went above and beyond. She provided guidance on interpersonal and presentation skills as well as supporting my interests in research and opened doors for further work experience in research.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This was highly variable. But most of the time I had plenty to do!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to develop skills outside the immediate remit of my job. I gained laboratory experience which has inspired me to apply for PhDs

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and supportive. We had socials and cake in the office fairly regularly.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised but allowed flexibility to complete my own project and allow me to explore my own development path based on interests. It wasn't overly organised in a way that might be restrictive.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Very good personal development plan scheme. GSK also provided further funding for me to extend my placement and gain laboratory based research experience on top of my year spent in the office.

    4/5

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
