The Role
This internship really helped me to start my career. I really enjoyed my internship to the point that I decided to extend it right up until the date when I started university. The company gave me lots of work to get involved with and I really felt part of the team.
My collegues were fantastic especially the collegues I talked to on a daily basis around my desk. They helped me out on numerous occasions and were understanding when struggled. I built very good bonds with my team.
The managers were fantastic they always checked I was okay and had work to do. They also arrange a goodbye meal for me and also showed me lots of areas of the business so that I made the most of my placement.
I was really happy with the amount of work I was given during this placement. If I wasn't working on my individual project I was helping to quote and bid with customers which made the job extremely interesting.
I was given a lot of responsibility. I had to manage my own timeand make sure that I was meeting targets. I was also allowed to talk to customers and make them bids and produce them quotes.
I had learnt all about fluid flow, materials and statics from this placement and how to apply the knowledge before I had even started my degree which was brilliant and really gave me an added bonus. I also learny how to work in an effective organisation and about the challenges engineers faced whilst at work.
The Company
It was brilliant everybody looked out for each other and got on. It was like we were all friends that knew each other forever. We had cake fridays as well which was brilliant.
I experienced no problems with my placement, I turned up on the first day did my security checks, had my intro to the company and met my team. I was paid on time and had no problems with getting my parking pass. And my desk and computer were set up for me on my first day.
The company were very good to me and tried to let me get as much out of my learning experience as possible. They also tried to get me a sponsorship for university however we ran out of time to try and get this complete.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Although I enjoyed my time there I dont think I want to work for the company only because I am not interested in working in the steel industry however the companies work was very interesting.
The Culture
I went out for lunch in a village pub nearby every friday with the graduates and interns and went out at the weekends for nights out with everybody. We also had a few staff meals out where the whole team came along which was a brilliant night.
It was a really cheap area to live in and socialising was cheap, I didnt spend very much at all.
For a small town there was a lot to do. There were clubs, bars, music nights and comedy nights and there were these really good alternative nights that were sometimes put on , on a thursday which I really enjoyed. Leicester was nearby as well and you could get a late night bus there if you wanted.
There were sports teams and nights out.
