    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My work placement was extremely enjoyable as I was able to gain hands on experience of a variety of legal work. I also met some really friendly individuals who made the experience even more enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I often felt that the work I did was of great value to my collegues, and I frequently received e-mails saying that my work was very appreciated and did not need much alterning.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I feel that I had the right balance of support from my supervisors whilst also given the room to take some initiative and find my own feet.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout the three weeks here I had some really busy days and some slightly quieter days, which was the perfect balance.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt that I was given a great deal of responsibility as often I was left to do 'trainee- type' work on my own.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed here will undoubtedly be skills that I will be able to use through-out the rest of my life. One of the most important skills I have developed has been my ability to project-manage my tasks in order to make sure that I can achieve the deadlines set.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a really friendly and 'open-door'atmosphere in both the departments I worked in. The balance was struck between working very hard to get the job done and ensuring that the stress levels were not too high.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The work placement was very well organised as I felt we had the perfect amount of activities to do in the days and evenings whilst also spending enough time in the departments to gain an extensive insight into the work.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a great deal of talks, presentations and case studies. All of the staff also gave up a lot of their time to talk to us, attend social events and make us feel very comfortable here.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I really hope to get a training contract with Mayer Brown.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the vacations scheme students got on very well and the other Mayer Brown colleagues were very friendly and welcoming.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living in London is very expensive, however, the amount of free social events we were able to attend and the money we were paid, reduced this struggle.

  • The area has many restaurants and bars.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were often invited to drinks, presentations and sporting events outside work.
