    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am grateful to go to work everyday. It is rare to say I wake up excited to go to work, and I recognise how lucky I am. The office environment is so friendly, welcoming, buzzing, creative (even though it's corporate), the food is good, the Chiswick Business Park is beautiful and peaceful, and there are amazing company perks!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone at Discovery is so lovely. The office culture here is so unpretentious; people are open, friendly, always willing to help, well-traveled, curious, and interesting. And of course, everyone is extremely talented and intelligent!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have felt valued by my team and those I work with from Day One. They have never treated me as an inferior intern and have been given real responsibility and trust since I started. If I ever feel lost or overwhelmed, I know there will always be support for me.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • From Day One, my manager lined up seven projects for me to freely work on, with given priorities. I highly value that I was given trust to manage and use my own time wisely. My manager made sure I was always challenged and never felt bored.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given real projects from Day One ranging in all sorts of creative fields. I am currently working on my biggest project, having to contact the different departments at Discovery to create a graphic showing an overview of how the company runs its programmes.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There are so many opportunities available at Discovery you could take advantage of, it comes down to how motivated you are. There are constant executive breakfasts, inspiring speakers, cool events, training programs, etc. for you to develop your skills. More importantly, it is up to you to develop skills you want and need to advance you in your career. Every project will provide you the opportunity for you to transfer these skills to life situations and a range of careers you want to pursue in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Amazing. Colourful, creative, diverse, friendly, open, professional yet casual.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We have a designated intern organiser who has been great at organising events and keeping us in the loop and even checking in on us.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have been extended a couple of times so I know that there is some attachment and investment in me. The more projects I have been working on and the more I understand the company, and I know they value all the interns who have been in this cycle and would look for opportunities in the future of working with us. There are plenty of training opportunities at Discovery (I work in Learning and Development so I know this as fact!)

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's hard to say depending on what career path you're looking for. Obviously, Discovery is a wonderful place so I have a feeling turnover rates are low; thus the job in the team I want may not open up for a while. Also, working in this multinational corporate environment I have learned there are a lot of sign offs and a long process to convince those who can validate creating a potential role for you… You just need to keep your eyes and ears peeled for roles that may resonate with what you would like to do when hiring managers look for new people.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone was lovely, but the dynamic could have been better and more social.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive so it really depends on your budget and support you may receive from your family/guardian(s). There are a few good and reasonable restaurants around the area and there are discount cards for the restaurant bars around Chiswick Park.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • This end of West London is a bit far out from the buzzing nightlife London may be known for..

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a small football league with Accenture.. But there are activities/groups within work you can be a part of, including the choir and groups to help you with your work/life productivity, and even Family Forums.

    2/5
