The Role
I was unhappy initially in my placement, but after talking to the person in charge of placements, I was moved to a different department which really suited me.
Initially, I felt very isolated, however after moving departments I was treated like one of the team from day one.
I was mostly left to my own devices, which suits my way of working, but may cause problems for people who need more support. Most members of te teams I worked in were too busy to offer me frequent support.
In my initial team, I was often bored and didn't have enough work to keep me going, but in my second team I was given enough to keep me busy without feeling overwhelmed.
I felt like the work I was doing was important, without being vital. So if I didn't complete the work, it wouldn't be disastrous, but if I did then it would be valued.
The Company
My initial experience was dull and somewhat depressing, however after moving, my experience was of a much more lighthearted team, and a more pleasant working atmosphere.
No-one in my teams had time to spend with me when I needed it, and there wasn't enough work for me to do in the first team.
I had regular 1 to 1 sessions with my Line Manager, although these weren't always helpful. There are e-learning courses available, but there was no encouragement to complete them and some were outdated.

At the end of your placement, your line manager can fast-track you through the application stage for a graduate job, which means that you go straight to assessment centre. We also recieved a day of training to help us pass the assessment centre.
The Culture
There were a couple of other placement students at my location, so we could socialise. We were also mostly included in the graduate events (There were a large number of graduates at my location), which offered more chances for socialising.
Reasonably cheap. My pay covered rent, food, travel and left enough for me to save for university.
The graduates went out every week, with an open invitation for Placement Students to join them. There were a couple of clubs and bars, but nothing spectacular, and a bit boring after the year.
Only graduate-run events, and an annual team outing to a Beer Festival.
