The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with Lloyds as it was the perfect stepping stone to a career within the specialist insurance industry. I was overjoyed to be accepted onto their graduate scheme and cannot wait to return.
My colleagues within my department were so welcoming and each sub-team took the time out to explain their specific roles and answer any questions that I had. This helped me settle in very fast and I was quickly able to make comments and suggestions to my team members who considered my views with equal weight as anyone else's.
Both my project supervisor and manager were unbelievably helpful throughout my placement. They answered any questions I had thoughtfully and immediately.
My substance of my working day varied largely. Some days were busier than others, but there certainly wasn't any time where I was stuck for something to do. Certain tasks had strict deadlines and hence these tended to be more busy periods.
I was given a particular role within the team project and it was my responsibility to complete the tasks on time and to the necessary standard.
I aim to develop my career within the insurance industry and therefore the skills and knowledge I acquired during my time at Lloyds will be invaluable. I received about a weeks worth of specific training on various areas of corporate skills such as communication, presenting, networking and many more.
The Company
For such a large, open plan office, every employee was very respectful of each others desired working environment. Everyone that I met and was introduced too was so welcoming and helped to make the general atmosphere of the office a positive one.
The first week began with a few days training which was very well-received and enjoyable. It gave us the chance to bond with the other interns before we were sent off into our teams. There were various training activities and talks throughout the placement too along with a final presentation afternoon towards the end.
I was certainly not expecting to learn as much as I did in such little time! Lloyds really invests in the development of young team members as they really see them as the future of the industry.

So pleased to say I will be returning to their graduate scheme next September!
The Culture
I've made such good friends in my colleagues and fellow interns, probably due to the amount of time we spent networking after work hours..!
Of course, living and socialising in London is always going to be more expensive than elsewhere in the country, but the variety and abundance of whats on offer is definitely worth it!
Plenty of pubs, bars and clubs around. Spoilt for choice...
There were opportunities to partake in team bonding days, community volunteering activities, networking with clients etc.
