The Role
It was really interesting with varied work including a number of different projects. As there were a number of summer students in different areas we had quite a social life going on too.
The work we did really helped them. Especially verification of specific events that occured as we had the time to collate the information for future reference before it was lost due to a time limit.
Supervisors had a clear list of project work for us to undertake with a different memeber of staff leading each one. This meant I saw all areas of the department and got to work with a number of different people.
Very busy! Especially during times of flood and when this wasen't occuring I had a number of other projects to undertake.
We were given instructions to undertake specific tasks, however some of them were to do with improving operational products and they way that we completed these tasks were down to us.
Time management was essential as was teamwork! I improved so many skills and learnt new techniques which definitely helped with my degree and job search once graduated. Invaluble experience.
The Company
Quite quiet at times as it was fully operational but everyone was really friendly.
Well organised - completed a number of projects and feel like I have added something to the company
Undertook a course at the Met Office College which was really interesting
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Very appealing. I would apply with no reservations if something suitable came up.
The Culture
Very good social scene. Most of us stayed in the same accomodation too. We met up at weekends and in the evenings for drinks, meals, trips to the beach and even all went to a weekly badminton club.
It was okay.
it wasen't full of students which was different so it was quite quiet but as there were a lot of us summer students we seemed to fill the pub/club.
We had our own team at the annual Met Office sports day! There are also a number of clubs you can join within the Met Office such as Ultimate Frisby, learning languages or choir.
